Online therapy
- how to prepare
Online psychotherapy allows you to connect with a therapist using any device with Internet access - computer, tablet or phone. You can schedule a session from home or wherever you are. All you need is calm surrounding and a good internet connection. To make the meeting comfortable and efficient, prepare yourself accordingly:
1. Before the start of therapy
Get familiar with Skype before your first session. If necessary, install it and run it beforehand. It will allow you to check if everything works as it should. Youcan decide to use headphones,. Remember to check if the microphone works.
2. Pick up a calm place
Choose a space in your home that provides peace and privacy. Let your household know that you will be having an online meeting and ask them not to be disturbed during the meeting.
3. Prepare your device
All you have to do is check before the session whether the laptop (or tablet / phone) you will be using is charged.
4. Check the internet connection
Use a high-speed internet connection whenever possible. The quality of the connection will improve by placing a Wifi router nearby or connecting to the router with a cable. You can also try to set up a hotspot on your phone and connect to it using a laptop.
5. Have your phone nearby
In the event of technical problems or a broken connection, keep a mobile phone handy to contact the therapist. Don't stress about technical issues that are normal and can happen.
6. Create a comfortable place
Make yourself comfortable during the session. Sometimes all you need is a comfortable armchair, a blanket and a cup of your favorite tea.
7. Be calm
